New York, NY — The Black Women Photographers collective is excited to announce the return of their grant in partnership with Nikon Inc. in celebration of the community’s second anniversary. The grant includes funds totaling $40,000 available to members of the Black Women Photographers collective, as well as $10,000 in cameras and lenses.

Dream Teams Up with Black Women Photographers for 2022 Season

The Atlanta Dream and Black Women Photographers announced today a new collaboration that will make photographer Allie Jest the Dream’s official photographer for the 2022 WNBA Season.

"This partnership is truly a Dream come true. As someone who has grown up watching the game and has tried many times to break into the world of sports as a career, I know how hard it can be for that door to open,” said Black Women Photographers founder Polly Irungu.

Black Women Photographers and TrackTown USA Partner to Hire Black Women for The Prefontaine Classic and USATF Outdoor Championships

Today TrackTown USA, the local organizing committee for the Prefontaine Classic and 2022 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships, announced it has partnered with Polly Irungu’s Black Women Photographers organization.

Together they are working to create opportunities for up-and-coming Black women photographers to be a part of TrackTown USA’s content teams for the 2022 track and field season at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon. Irungu and the TrackTown USA team will select a group of photographers to be paid for coverage of The Prefontaine Classic and USATF Outdoor Championships.

Live Nation Urban and Black Women Photographers Partner to Hire Black Women Content Teams Nationwide at Concerts and Music Festivals

In celebration of Women’s History Month, Live Nation Urban has partnered with Polly Irungu’s Black Women Photographers Organization.

Together, they’ve launched a first-of-its-kind contest to spotlight the work of up-and-coming Black woman and non-binary photographers. Irungu and the Live Nation Urban team will select a handful of photographers to be paid to officially shoot one of Live Nation Urban’s 2022 music festivals.

Black Women Photographers Collective Announces Inaugural Summit Featuring Raven B. Varona, Kimberly Douglas, Audrey Woulard, Lola Flash, and More Notable Speakers!

New York, New York — The Black Women Photographers global collective announces the inaugural #BWPSummit, sponsored by Adobe and Lightroom, to be held virtually March 11-13, 2022, featuring twelve speakers from around the world. 

The first annual summit features industry leaders we all know and love: Raven B. Varona, Kimberly Douglas, also known as @kihmberlie, Audrey Woulard, Lola Flash, Lola Akinmade Åkerström, Amanda J. Cain, NHL’s first Black woman team photographer, Whitney Matewe, DeLovie Kwagala, Cheriss May, Sade Nadya,Chaya Howell, and Idara Ekpoh.

iStock Awards $20,000 to Four Emerging Commercial Photographers, Videographers and Illustrators Globally as Part of Inaugural Inclusion Grant

iStock, a leader in affordable visual communications for the creative, entrepreneurial, student and SMB communities, announces the four creative commercial artists chosen to receive its inaugural Inclusion Grant, designed to support them as they endeavor to draw attention to underrepresented communities through their work. The grant was open to commercial photographers, videographers and illustrators based in the U.S., UK, LATAM and Australia and is being awarded in partnership with U.S.-based organization Black Women Photographers, UK-based organization Creative Access, Fotografas Latam and Australia Council for the Arts.

Visura donates $15,000 in Sponsored Websites for Black Women Photographers

Visura is delighted to announce a $15,000 in-kind sponsorship to Black Women Photographers in support of members who do not have a website and need one. 

Visura will sponsor 30 members of Black Women Photographers with a Lifetime Plus account on Visura to build their website interconnected to Visura's global market network. Visura founder Adriana Teresa will volunteer her time to meet with each of the members for a 20-minute one-on-one consultation and website design review.

SmugMug + Flickr and Black Women Photographers Announce $1,200 Grant

The Black Women Photographers collective announces a new grant in partnership with SmugMug + Flickr in celebration of the community’s one-year anniversary. 

The grant includes funds of $1,200 to be used by the recipient towards furthering their photography practice, a two-year Flickr Pro membership, and a one-year SmugMug Pro membership. Ten additional recipients will also each receive a one-year Flickr Pro membership and one-year SmugMug Pro membership.

STILL WE RISE | PHMUSEUM ONLINE EXHIBITION

CURATED BY BLACK WOMEN PHOTOGRAPHERS

Worldwide — It’s been over two years since the Covid-19 pandemic first struck an untimely blow, and the uncertainty it ravaged since it descended eerily lingers. When normalcy blew up in flames, the world looked to Black women to quench its thirst. To Black women, the hidden figures and unsung revolutionaries of the world, the need for self-preservation is more urgent than ever before.

What does it mean to a Black woman maneuvering a white, capitalist world? What does it mean to a Black, queer, masculine person navigating their place in queer history? What does it mean to a migrant Black woman trying to stay afloat when your home country tried to drown you?

For most Black women, the perpetual lockdowns and incessant travel restrictions equipped us with a contemplative pause. These interludes of introspection allowed these 9 Black women and non-binary photographers to consider the politics that shape our everyday.

Atlanta, Georgia — The Black Women Photographers collective announces a new partnership with AFROPUNK in celebration of the Back and Blacker Than Ever festival kickoff in Atlanta.  

AFROPUNK announced the return of its annual global festival taking place in Atlanta at the Atlantic Station Pinnacle this September 25th & 26th. The lineup for the weekend-long, annual celebration, includes headlining acts such as Wale & The Ppl, a LIVE band bringing DC’s “go-go” party to the ATL, Smino, Rico Nasty, Dungeon Family’s KP The Great & Friends and features acts like Tems who will perform for the first time in the US, Fousheé, Serpentwithfeet, Tkay Maidza, Amindi, Liv.e, Lesibu Grand, Hollow Sinatra and many more.
