A Conversation with Tracey Woods
Tracey Woods is a creator at heart.
Armed with over a decade of experience in photo shoot production, creative direction and photo research, Woods most recently served as Photo Director at Essence Communications.
As an artist and photographer, she draws inspiration from beauty in the unexpected. During summer 2020, her signature artwork adorned the windows of Macy’s flagship stores in New York, San Francisco and Chicago.
An out-of-the-box thinker and astute problem solver, she has overseen projects ranging from celebrity, portraiture and fashion & beauty, to reportage, travel, food and lifestyle. Her client roster includes Revlon, Bulova, L’Oreal, General Mills and Verizon, as well as Bon Appétit and InStyle magazines, to name a few. Additionally, she’s conducted portfolio reviews, participated on panels and judged photography contests for a number of the industry’s leading organizations including American Society of Media Photographers, Eddie Adams Workshop, New York Times Portfolio Review, NYC Fotoworks, Palm Spring Photo Festival and Society of Publication Designers.
Along with sharing her expertise as a workplace mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City, she has volunteered for First Take, the high school workshop sponsored by the New York Association of Black Journalists and hosted by the City University of New York Graduate School of Journalism.
Woods holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in photography from Pratt Institute and earned her Bachelor of Arts in graphic design from Rhode Island College. A native of Providence, she now calls Brooklyn, New York home.
