Memory House
Memory House is an exhibition that delves into the intricate and multifaceted identities of Black women. “Memory House” illustrates stored past experiences or history that define or contribute to who you are. This collection is a testament to the rich tapestry of history, culture, and self-discovery that shape who we are. Featuring 20 Black Women Photographers who showcase powerful narratives, revealing how the past influences our present, our choices, and the impact we leave on others.
From intimate documentation of becoming a caregiver to reflective self-portraiture, we invite you to consider your own “Memory House.” Consider how these elements intertwine with your gender, sexuality, and personal path of self-discovery.
The images showcased here are not only personal expressions but also windows into the diverse experiences that define identity. Exploring sacred family traditions, documenting the journey of becoming a caregiver, and chronicling archival family work, each artist explores topics unique to the Black experience. Exemplary to Blackness is not a monolith, womanhood is not a monolith, existence is not a monolith.
